As a "plein air" painter, Bernabe couldn't resist the oportunity to come and paint the autumn of the northern hemisphere. Every year we are enchanted by the intense warm color palette of this changing season and Bernabe came decided to capture it on his canvas.
His journey started in Canada walking around the forest with his portable easel table box and roll of linens, in pursuit of the ideal light to capture the colors that only artists see.
Every linen became a page in his diary of this trip. Along the way, he depicted the shore of Boston, the reflection of the trees in Canadian waters, and the colorful hills of Pennsylvania.
Then, he finally stopped at the gallery where I had the chance not only to peek his "travel diary" but also understand a little bit the complex process of his paintings, this involved walking, observing and discussing together the light all around us. In this way, I was able to comprehend the importance of light for the artist (topic that had already discussed with Eliseo and how important was for him as well).
Because not everyday is the right day to paint in "plein air". Timing as in life, is key, being in the right place at the right time. He is always looking for the perfect reflection, the right ray of light, the shadow in contrast with the brightness.
Then, Bernabe observed the landscape, and he translated the nature thru his unique kaleidoscope vision to make and combine the colors.
We are all sensitive to the beauty of nature, but only a few like Bernabe can translate it.

Los colores del otono inspiran Bernabe.
Como pintor del "aire libre", Bernabe no pudo resistirse a la oportunidad de venir y pintar el otoño del hemisferio norte. Cada ano la intensa paleta de colores cálidos de esta estación nos hechiza y Bernabe vino decidido a capturar esa magia en sus lienzos.
Su viaje empezo en Canada caminando los bosques con su caballete portátil y su rollo de lienzos en busca de la luz ideal para capturar los colores que solo los artistas ven.
Cada lienzo se convierto en una hoja de su diario de viaje. A lo largo de su camino pinto las costas de Boston, los reflejos de los arboles en las aguas canadienses y las coloridas colinas de Pennsylvania.
Finalmente hizo una parada en la galeria en donde no solo tuve la oportunidad de echar un vistazo a su "diario", sino ademas de entender un poquito mas el proceso complejo de su pintura. Eso involucro caminar, observar y discutir juntos acerca de la luz que nos rodea. Fue así que pude comprender mejor la importancia de la luz para los artistas (tema que ya había discutido con Eliseo quien afirmo cuan importante era para el también).
Porque no todos los dias son buenos para pintar al aire libre (plein air). El "timing", como en la vida, es clave: Es estar en el lugar adecuado en el momento adecuado. El siempre esta buscando el reflejo perfecto, el rayo de luz correcto, la sombra en contraste con el brillo.
Entonces Bernabe observa el paisaje y traduce la naturaleza que ve atraves de su propio caleidoscopio para hacer y combinar los colores.
Porque todos somos sensibles a la belleza de la naturaleza, pero solo unos pocos como Bernabe pueden traducirla.
